1. Read ingredients on all cosmetics
2. Test cosmetics on a small patch of skin
3. Inform yourself about potentially hazardous cosmetic additives (i.e. parabens, mercury, titanium dioxide)
4. Look for juice-based or plant-based products
5. Remember that baby products (i.e. shampoos, body washes) can be used for adults and are often gentler than other products.
6. Do use a trusted dermatologist for medical advice and as a resource.
7. Don't be fooled by cosmetics found at many drugstores and "natural food" markets labeled "organic" and/or "natural". Many times these products are a combination of natural and synthetics (including potential carcinogens).
8. Shop for organic and natural cosmetics on the internet, where you'll find a much wider selection of truly natural products than most local drugstores and even many "natural food" markets.
